The Tale of a Whale

Well, Wafers, maybe it's a question of dual consciousness. Some of you have suggested that it's possible that more and more Americans are becoming Waferish, at least in part. That is, they realize that the country is finished; that capitalism is a con; and that progress is an illusion. Hard to say. I'm guessing that these Waferian themes have penetrated some American minds on a subliminal level, but that the dominant consciousness is still the ideology of the dominant culture. This would mean that some percentage of the public is undergoing a kind of mental strain, in that these people are of two very conflicting minds. So they mostly remain committed to the American value system, but in Mr. Hyde fashion, there is a dark undertow pulling them in another direction. It may even account for the typical hysteria that Americans display when confronted with serious critiques of the country: the critiques touch a hidden nerve. As to how all this figures into our ongoing national collapse, or whether it makes any difference at all, I don't really know. But imagine this as a collective dream, anticipated by Herman Melville: as the ship of state moves along, the giant tail of an enormous whale rises up out of the sea, and smashes the ship to pieces. You don't have to be Freud to decode that one, I'm guessing.

To your point, Dr. Berman, I haven't met ONE person in the past 24 months who has been able to say:

"Yes, this country's on the ball and headed in the right direction."

The difference between WAFers and the general public, though, is that the average American's brain short-circuits when he's confronted with the fact that none of this rot is remediable by political means.

Democrats, in particular, are desperate to hold on to this illusion that there's a self-correcting mechanism on the way. In fact, the worse things get, the more magical the American left becomes!

This is all to be expected from a population that's read every self-help book by Tony Robbins, but hasn't even skimmed a summary of Schopenhauer.

Meanwhile, the anti-democratic propaganda has been turned up a notch. I'm sure Oprah will be along to tell us how we can 'manifest spiritual wealth by re-ordering our chakras' any day now:

Take a look at Monica's face. This is the face of America. But I do have some complaints:

    1. Monica was arrested, when she shd have been given the Presidential Medal of Honor.
    2. Pointing a gun? That's it? How is it that Monica was not equipped with semi-automatic weapons? Which is what a true American wd have in her house.
    3. The kid was an obvious danger to Monica, and in fact, symbolically, to all of America. This requires swift action. What are guns for, anyway?
    4. I recommend that Monica get an AK-47 and bring it w/her to all McDonald's restaurants. Then, if they forget to put bacon on her cheeseburger...boom boom! Shaneka, you remain a hero to us all.

What I have proposed to the Pentagon is a weekly holiday called Free-for-All-Friday. An interesting quote:
"Disbelief in the power of human reason, in man's power to discern the truth, is almost invariably linked with distrust of man. Thus epistemological pessimism is linked, historically, with a doctrine of human depravity, and it tends to lead to the demand
for the establishment of powerful traditions and the entrenchment of a powerful authority which would save man from his folly and his wickedness." - Karl Popper, 'Conjectures and Refutations'

Is using "Nancy Pelosi" as some sort of cuss word a common practice? I ask because I've encountered this before, on internet comments sections, usually where wokeness is something of a topic.

It's even more delusional than what Qanon fanatics believe. Friedman has a long, shameful history of sugarcoating right-wing ideology so it appeals to liberals, and this is yet another example.

Clearly, Friedman doesn't care if climate change destroys all complex life on the planet. Because he's worth 25 million and charges 40,000 for speaking engagements, we can safely say he only wants to make as much money as he can before he dies. What a pathetic, amoral, empty shell of a man! Because America is filled with people like Friedman, the Boogaloo can't come soon enough.

Personal observations: see this with US immigrants quite often--Filipinos, Mexicans, Italians, French, Japanese, etc... There is very little to anything left of their homeland within them. They may have "cute" accents, different food, etc.. however, that's abt it. They're USians.

They transitioned to full American with all its' hustling, huckstering, and narcissism. They want what the US is offering and appear to present full buy-in; they're lost causes.

In popular culture this translated into the Lone Ranger, the sheriff in High Noon who takes on the bad guys alone, etc. This individualism has made Americans some of the most lonely people on Earth, a self inflicted wound brought about by their Quixotic pursuit of "Freedom". In the book listed below, The Lonely Century, author Noreena Hertz also points to the Neoliberal regime and its dog-eat-dog mantra for creating an environment of loneliness. It might be both. Several yrs ago I read an article that pointed out that while the US had 4.2% of the world's population, it consumed 67% of the world's anti-depressants (in dollar value). In the face of those stats, its citizens run around yelling "We're the greatest!" How, then, wd you characterize those citizens?

  51. A quote from the introduction of the book COVID 19: The Great Reset.

" On an individual basis , for many , life as they've always known it is unravelling at alarming speed. But deep, existential crises also favour introspection and can harbour the potential for transformation. The fault lines of the world- most notably social divides , lack of fairness , absence of cooperation , failure of global governance and leadership- now lie exposed as never before, and people feel the time for reinvention has come. A new world will emerge , the contours of which are for us to both imagine and draw."

Are the likes Klaus Schwab, Bill Gates and various world leaders the "whale tail" in this current global scenario? Hard to say. I'm sure the contours of the new world (order?) mentioned will be imagined and drawn without my input. Just like the old contours. Do the likes of Klaus Schwab of the WEF bear no responsibility for the exposed "fault lines " mentioned. So many questions.

In other news, this Va. Rep. probably has it rt: Biden was not elected to become the next FDR. Dems lost a lot in last election because, as Sen. Manchin recently pointed out, the country is centrist-right. Jimmy made the same mistake in 1979, thinking that Americans were ready to reject uncontrolled consumerism and go for a green, sustainable, de-growth society. Ha! When pigs fly. Ronnie knew better: Americans are hustlers, and just want More; this is their true value system. I doubt Biden can get his spending agenda passed; even in the case of infrastructure, do Americans *really* care if their roads, bridges, etc. are in disrepair? I dunno. But all of this does not bode well for the election of Nov. 2022. The Dems will go down in flames, and Biden's agenda will be a cooked goose, while he will be a lame duck (just keeping the seat in the Oval Office warm until Trumpaloni can replant his large rump in it).

Do you think Biden's photo deserves as much pee as the others? He's doing his best to combat COVID and revive FDR's socioeconomic model, and ended the war in Afghanistan. These are all admirable things. And although he voted for tons of bad things earlier in his career, he seems to have learned from many of his mistakes.

    Evening, fellow WAFers.

Here's an interesting documentary from the early 90s about gang warfare in Little Rock, Arkansas:

    https://archive.org/details/America_Undercover_Gang_War_Bangin_in_Little_Rock_1994-08-02

When this came out, I was still in the public education system, where I got bussed into a school that was like something out of a dystopian science fiction story (Gifford, FL). It was a very dangerous place. When the Rodney King riots happened in L.A., the school erupted into a frightening amount of racial violence. The amount of hate in the air was so thick, you could cut it with a knife. I still have a scar above my eye from having a chair thrown at my head.

30 years later, that same town's only claim to fame is producing a rapper who worked with Kanye West on a song. The guy's in prison for double-murder and will probably never see the light of day again.

    Nadine-

Yr rt. He's trying to be FDR, wh/won't work, but at least it's something.

Meanwhile, let's talk abt the US going down the drain. I provided the roadmap in the course of 3 bks, but no one was listening. Both DAA and WAF were vilified and ignored; and how many times, on this blog, have I predicted violence and secession? Latest stats: 30% of Republicans say violence will be necessary to rout the enemy, and something like 50-66% favor secession. And 41% of Dems favor secession. Here's some data:

    https://dailyvoice.com/new-york/whiteplains/politics/new-poll-reveals-percentages-of-americans-who-want-to-secede-by-region/812724/

Given the Republican interest in violence, you'd think the Dems/wokes/progs wd be arming themselves, but instead their concern is abt the skin color of the latest gov't appointee. A few mos. ago, most of the 200 processed of those who assaulted the Capitol on Jan. 6 proved to be fairly well off--folks w/solid middle-class jobs. This was hardly an uprising of the poor; their basic concern was that they (whites) were being replaced by nonwhites and non-Christians. So, a house divided against itself will not stand. I pegged 2030 as the crucial year, but all-out civil war might happen sooner--certainly if Trumpi is not reelected in 2024. The bubbas will not stand for another "stolen" election, and the wokes and progs will continue to beat off, because that all they really know how to do. A # of factors--ones I've previously identified--are converging to cause the country to implode, and as Chalmers Johnson wrote yrs ago, we will not escape our fate. What other outcome cd be expected w/a population that is stupid, violent, and focused on hustling and competition above everything else? The # of Americans interested in a society w/radically different values is probably less than 0.1%, and they can hardly be expected to effect any change at all. The experiment is over. It was a mistake from the beginning--a gigantic one, as Freud correctly pointed out.

I was riding the subway in Boston a few days ago, when one person got on and started stomping around the train car. The person (a young adult) sat down and started laughing loudly and talking to himself in an aggressive shouting manner so that everyone could hear. What was he going on about?
    Chicken Sandwiches!

Basically, he was having an argument with himself/a friend about which one was better: the McDonalds chicken sandwich, or the BK chicken sandwich. He was like “Shit! The dark meat sometimes in the BK, Nasty” but then he was like “McDonald sandwich is just a nasty chicken McNugget!”; It was an very active, solipsistic dialectic on the topic of chicken sandwiches.

It was a relief when he finally stepped off the car, since I had the intuition that he was ready to angrily "latch onto" anyone that accidentally made eye contact with him.

Obviously, the above is someone with a psychotic level of psychological disturbance; but as Wafers understand, it isn’t only that.

Inasmuch as everything in the US has turned into theater, I have this vision that cd easily be made into a play. What happens is that Biden and Trumpi square off again in 2024, and Biden wins. The bubbim and bubbot go abs. nuts, and storm the W.H., not w/guns, but w/chicken sandwiches. They find the whole Biden admin, and ram the sandwiches up their asses. Then they move on to the Capitol and do the same thing. They take over the gov't, and re-do the American flag. It now shows an ass w/a chicken sandwich hanging out of it. In the final scene, all money has been replaced, and commercial transactions are performed in terms of chicken sandwiches.

The governor and others in Vermont have decided that the only thing they need to do is keep asking that people get vaccinated. The vaccine is now approved for children 5-12 years old. Interesting...in terms of approval rating, major drop for Biden was among the black population. Which means that all that diversity stuff, black gov't appointments and so on, was just what we've been saying here: window dressing. In terms of substantive chg, it amounted to 0. So while the bubbas have been beating (the Dems), the wokes and the progs have been beating off.

Once again, the US is going down the toilet no matter who gets elected in 2024. But with Trumpi it'll be a lot faster. And it does say, as you pt out, who and what America consists of. Really, what's to save? A fucked-in-the-head population? The clowns at the NYT? A debased Supreme Court? A dysfunctional educational system? A military endlessly engaged in genocide? Bill Maher's commentary was interesting. He's definitely starting to dip his toes into WAFerdom.

Industrialized Western societies (and DEFINITELY the United States) aren't equipped to deal with a planet-wide catastrophe like global warming. Because the problem can't be expressed in terms of 'what's good for the bottom line', the solution will never present itself.

Americans do indeed live vicariously through the hyper-pampered 'celebrity class'. The more vulgar the celebrity is with conspicuous consumption, the more 'liked' the celebrity is. It doesn't matter that Eastern philosophy has been telling us for thousands of years that there's never enough 'stuff' to fill a spiritual void.

Americans are committed to the idea that they're all one gizmo, 'like', or Chanel bag away from enlightenment.

They think this will solve all America's problems no matter how much people hate their obnoxious behavior, which shows they don't understand how people function.

Dr. B: You were so profoundly right when you noted above that "Eve of Destruction" could have been written yesterday. Funny thing is, I discovered that Barry McGuire updated the song in 2011 to speak to present U.S. issues, but the truth is that every lyric in the original still describes reality in the U.S.A., and, sadly, in Canada and around the world.

Though the Vietnam War is over, the undeclared war with China rages on. Though young adults have no awareness of the fact, nuclear weapons are still poised and at the ready.

And then there are those classic lines near the end that Bezos, Musk, et al. have rendered prophetic: "you may leave here for four days in space / But when you return, it's the same old place."

Well, when people who don't give a shit abt the environment host a conference on the environment, the outcome is pretty predictable. In general, I recall rdg something recently abt a poll that showed that most people have no serious interest in living a different way; I think I recently referred to it as eco-chic. As the incidents and data pour in from the media and from all of you guys, one has the sense of, "This can't really be happening!" But it is, and what it adds up to is where we're heading: massive collapse. This has already occurred on the social and cultural levels; we're just waiting for politics and economics to catch up.

    https://youtu.be/3O9FFrLpinQ

One thing in particular that stood out is that stupidity isn't limited to a certain social class, race, age, sex, or education level, which is something that is discussed pretty often in this here blog.

The one great similarity between the Proud Boy types and Daesh, Ms. Bupkis, is that the USA produced both. As with how the Jimmy Carter regime was instrumental in creating the mujahedeen in Afghanistan as a means to usurp the pro-Soviet government there, and the Israelis created Hamas as a counter to the PLO in Palestine, the US destruction of Iraq broke the ground in which Daesh was to sprout.

Can you recommend a book on statistical theory & philosophy? It seems like the media pumps out constant new statistics, which is training everyone to simply see the world as an engineering problem to solve. So for example, if self-driving cars are 5% safer than gas cars, then we should have all electric cars & ban gas cars. Or if vaccines reduce death by 10%, they should be forced onto the entire planet. If eating soy produces 50% less pollution than beef, we should make beef eating illegal. It seems once they get everyone to think like an engineer, philosophy or discussions without numbers seem pointless, and it becomes a bunch of engineers setting standards that must be followed by everyone. This seems part of a larger movement that thinks everything should be standardized and uniform across the planet (language, weights & measures, calendar, etc.)

Attended local Veteran's Day celebration this morning. Difficult to tell if it was a secular or religious event. Shining example of the conflation in America of Christianity and patriotism. Opening Prayer to Jesus - even in the possible presence of Muslim and Jewish veterans. Main address was delivered by a local pastor who reminded us the troupe that "Freedom is not free" and thanked God for the sacrifices that preserve American liberty.
He concluded by thanking the "ultimate soldier", Jesus, who sacrificed his life so "we" could be free. By "we" I assume he meant USA citizens although Jesus is best known in America for so loving the WORLD that he died for it. How ironic that the "Ultimate Soldier" was crucified by imperial soldiers who later may have become members of the Roman Veterans of Foreign Wars. But then irony is mostly lost on Americans. Why bother to point it out or correct horrific theology. A double dose of wasted breath.

For example, something more comprehensive that criticizes the need to have any kind of standards that should be applied widely, such as clocks, weights, language, mythology, philosophy, etc. There's no reason for everyone on earth to need to know Greek philosophy, the myths of Moses/Abraham, or 12 tone music. I'm wondering if having something like a "canonized Bible" is one of the leading factors in modern problems (with Platonic dogmas then forced by emperors). Standards seem to originate with emperors & personalities who want to have power over other people. Tools now exist for them to have control far beyond any emperor ever had.

It seems there's this ongoing fight to make children be seen as totally autonomous people at an early age. Somebody is going to have influence over kids, so the fight is now, who will that be? Should children have a "right" to do whatever they want at whatever age they want? It seems like the culture is saying that families don't really matter, and that we should hand phones and cash to kids at an early age & let advertising and social media raise & influence them. Recently, there have been people trying to get kids vaccines, birth control pills, and abortions even when their parents disapprove, since these things are "rights."
